Installing and Running Crysis on Windows 7 64 bit

Everyone out there having a little enthusiasm about PC gaming must have heard of the game Crysis. Its one of the greatest games ever released. GameSpot wrote about this game:

“Crysis is visually stunning, packed with intelligent, thrilling gameplay, and easily one of the greatest shooters ever made.”

and gave it a whooping rating of 9.5 out of 10. Anyway, recently I had a chance to get a hold of this game. You can buy the DVD or if you have a good internet connection, you can download the full version (slightly greater than 6 GB).

Now, if you have downloaded the Razor 1911 version, you must have got 65 files like rzr-crys.001, rzr-crys.002 and so on. From the file extension, you must have been thinking of adding the files with HJSPLIT. But adding the files with HJSPLIT will give you a file named ‘rzr-crys’ with no extension at all!! You can rename the file with .iso or .rar extensions, but that won’t work. What you have to do to find the iso file is that you have to open the rzr-crys.001 file with WinRAR. Right click on rzr-crys.001 file and select WinRAR to open the file with. Then just click on “Extract to..” in the WinRAR console. You now have the working iso fie of Crysis.

After installation, you might encounter problem running the game if you have a 64 bit OS. The cracks inside the DVD or the iso file is for 32 bit OS only. You have to download manually the crack file for 64 bit OSes. Many of them are available online, I would suggest the one provided by website. Download the file, extract it with password “” and copy the two crack files to appropriate folders namely Bin32 and Bin64. Now, from the Properties of the desktop shortcut of the game, you have to change the target from “C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\Crytek\Crysis\Bin64\Crysis.exe” to “C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\Crytek\Crysis\Bin32\Crysis.exe”.

Another quick tip, if you have a not-so-advanced hardware, I would suggest you to run the game on DirectX9 mode. If you’ve installed the game in Windows 7 or Windows Vista, Crysis sets the DirectX mode by default to DX10. You can change the default setting by changing the desktop shortcut target from “C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\Crytek\Crysis\Bin32\Crysis.exe” to “C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\Crytek\Crysis\Bin32\Crysis.exe” -dx9. You will certainly notice boost in your frame rate and performance.
